Week Two Response: Where Bush Really Points

  1. Quick thoughts on Amber Case's "Cyborg Anthropology":

    "Mary Poppins technology" -- I love that term! The idea that we can take as much as we want with us in a bag without making it bigger or heavier.

    Great quote: "We're all 'I Love Lucy' on an assembly line of information." That's so true -- it's kind of addictive/compulsive, as Nick put it today.

    And ah -- I also love her point about how we have no time for reflection away from the panic architecture (of hundreds of unread emails, or facebook updates). The times when we have no external input are the times when we can attend to our creation of self. Are our children going to miss out on that? How can we create that space?

    But then she winds it all back to a positive point: "It's not that machines are taking over -- it's that they're helping us to be human." I like her diagram of the internet as an organic organism. Very thought-provoking.
